Portrait Workshop Supplies

Below is a list of my most used supplies. You** DO NOT** need to purchase everything. I have listed the supplies I can’t live without, each is a link to amazon or other sites to make it easy to purchase what you want for the workshop and beyond. However, you are welcome to borrow a color and decide if you want to buy it later. If you want to use a different medium, that is also fine, but you will need all of the necessary supplies.

These are the oil colors I use most for portraits: You DO NOT need to buy all of these, if you think you’ll want to paint more portraits, they will be very helpful. You can always borrow from me and buy later. Viridian Green Cobalt Teal Cobalt Blue Ultramarine Blue Ultramarine Violet Quinacridone Rose a chromatic rose, I have yet to mix a color I like as well and use it in many places, especially with florals and flesh tones. Alizarin Claret This is a permanent solution for Alizarin crimson which is a fugitive color, meaning it looses it’s chroma over time. Cadmium Red Medium Cadmium Yellow Med Yellow Ochre Transparent Red Iron Oxide (I also use Burnt Sienna, but if you’re buying new, I like this one better.) Flake White (I really like this for flesh tones and more delicate mixes)

Brushes: I LOVE these brushes and am frequently sending links to them. They are a blend of bristle and synthetic and keep their shape so well and give crisp lines and details. This is the brush I use for the lay-in and beyond. Easels: I will have table easels available, however feel free to bring your own easel if you prefer.

Panels/Canvas, Bring whatever you would like! I love panels, but canvas also works. My personal favorite is Baltic Birch but these Canvas panels are also great. Some of you mentioned you are planning on giving your portrait as a gift. Keep that in mind when choosing.
